Get Smarts

Set atop a hill in picturesque rural Suffolk, we find this beautiful but unassuming project. We are first greeted by simple, classic double doors. These are highly durable aluminium doors from Smarts in a subtle cream finish. The lack of mullions and transoms mean that the glazing is from top to bottom, allowing plenty of natural light into the building.

We like the way this glazing complements the local vernacular, the understated aluminium sits at ease with the traditional Flemish Bond brickwork, peg tiles, and timber cladding. Brick, metal, timber, and clay seem to be such natural partners.

The doors open into the home’s private gymnasium area, which is treated to wonderful view of the Suffolk village through the picture window, which again benefits from a large uninterrupted single pane. The gym’s side wall has triple-leaf bifolds in a 3-3-0 arrangement for that essential traffic door.

Moving downstairs, we see the pool room which opens out onto a sun-patio and allows perfect inside/outside access when the pool is in use via the 3-3-0 aluminium bifold doors.

The home’s two-sections are joined with a small passageway with single Smarts aluminium doors on either side, which allows the light to travel through entirely whilst providing convenient access to the front and back of the property through the centre of the building.

Throughout the rest of this part of the home, in the bedroom, bathroom and dormers, there are aluminium flash-sash windows. The bedroom is given the wow factor by a double-door Juliette balcony with wonderful views across the village.
